Julia Coronel is ecstatic to lead Galeries Tower to its first triumph in the PVL All-Filipino Conference via a sweep of Capital1 on the road Saturday.
Julia Coronel and the rest of Galeries Tower were not to be denied of their first win in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
After four tries, the Highrisers got its act together to sweep Capital1, 26-24, 25-14, 25-23, at the Minglanilla Sports Complex in Cebu on Saturday, December 7.
In the process, Galeries Tower also snapped a 14-game losing streak dating back to the 2024 All-Filipino Conference.
“I'm just really thankful kay God and I'm just super happy that we finally got our first win. We're really hoping to get many, many more wins this conference. And, siyempre, paghihirapan talaga namin 'yun,” Coronel said after the match.

The 24-year-old Coronel showed off not just her setting but also her service prowess, putting up 10 excellent sets she topped with nine points, five of which from aces.
“May instructions din kasing ibinibigay 'yung coaches on where to target and sinusunod ko lang din 'yun. And, siyempre, to the best of my ability, ipinapasok ko rin,” Coronel explained.
Three Highrisers finished in double digits led by Jewel Encarnacion who had 11 points. Ysa Jimenez and Andrea Marzan also added 10 markers apiece.
Galeries Tower excelled across the scoring metrics, outperforming the Solar Spikers in spikes (37-31), blocks (9-5) and aces (7-6). The Highrisers also fed off Capital1's 23 unforced errors, while limiting their own miscues to 19.
Meanwhile, Leila Cruz paced the Solar Spikers with 14 points, while Jorelle Singh had 10 points in the loss that gave the team a a 1-4 record.
“We worked hard for every point and, most importantly, we worked as a team. 'Yun din 'yung [pinagtrabahuan] namin, 'yung connection namin, 'yung gelling naming. And we're glad na na-translate namin 'yun sa laro na ito,” Coronel said.
Galeries Tower will have one more match before the Christmas break as they go up against Chery Tiggo on Dec. 14 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
On the other hand, Capital1 will be back on Jan. 21, hoping to pull off the upset against multititled Creamline.
