MJ Phillips made her return for the Petro Gazz Angels after recovering from a left foot injury, contributing two points in their four-set victory over PLDT High Speed Hitters.
After months on the sidelines, MJ Phillips made her much-anticipated return for the Petro Gazz Angels in their 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference matchup against the PLDT High Speed Hitters.
The Angels triumphed in four sets, 12-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday, December 10, marking their third consecutive win.
For Phillips, the game was a mix of nerves and excitement, as it was her first match since recovering from a left foot injury that kept her out of the 2024 Reinforced Conference.
“I was really nervous coming into this game. It felt like the first day of school all over again,” Phillips said during the post-game press conference. “Thankfully, my team was here to back me up and encourage me, even if I’m there for just a couple of points.”
Despite limited minutes on the court, the middle blocker made her presence felt, contributing two points and focusing on supporting the team.
“My mindset was just to contribute for the team, whatever it takes. I was really excited today,” said Phillips.
The two-time PVL Best Middle Blocker emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication in her return.
“Just communication and trust within the team. Constant communication will translate in the game, making sure there’s no drop balls or anything,” she added.
Phillips’ return will be a big boost for the Angels moving forward amid their championship aspirations in the All-Filipino Conference.
Petro Gazz look to cap the year on a high note when they face the unbeaten Cignal HD Spikers on Saturday, December 14, still at PhilSports.
