The Akari Chargers are just one win away from advancing to the semifinals after holding off the Galeries Tower Highrisers in five sets, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11.
Akari inched closer to another semifinals appearance after holding off Galeries Tower in five sets, 21-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11, in Game 1 of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, March 15.
In the fifth set, the Chargers leaned on Ivy Lacsina, Fifi Sharma, and Eli Soyud to give themselves a much-needed three-point lead at 6-3.
Jewel Encarnacion managed to keep the Highrisers within striking distance after cutting the lead to one at 8-9, courtesy of a service ace.
But Akari would regain its three-point lead once more behind Camille Victoria’s cross-court attack and Michelle Cobb’s kill block on France Ronquillo.
From there, the Chargers held on to their lead with Lacsina sealing the victory with an off-the-block hit.
Soyud was hailed the Player of the Game with 19 points on 18 attacks and one service ace.
Game 2 is set on Thursday, March 20, still at the Philsports Arena.
