There’s a reason why Sherwin Meneses is the winningest head coach in the PVL.

On Saturday, March 18, Meneses cemented his place among the greats even further after the Creamline Cool Smashers’ swept the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-10, 27-25, 25-21, in Game 1 of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals.

The win not only moved the Cool Smashers a victory from their 17th straight semifinals appearance—it also marked Meneses’ 100th win as a head coach in the PVL.

After the match, Meneses expressed his joy on the achievement, hoping to continue his winning ways with the grand slam champions.

“Ayun, masaya at na-achieve yung 100 [wins] pero sana mas marami pang panalo na dumating, especially this season, this conference na madagdagan ‘yung panalo pa , especially sa mga next games namin,” Meneses said during the post-game press conference.

Meneses became Creamline’s head coach back in the 2022 Open Conference. Since then, the multi-titled tactician had lost just 15 games.

That’s about an 87% win rate for the Cool Smashers, who have won seven PVL titles with Meneses.

Under his tutelage, Meneses has handled multiple MVP winners such as Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, Tots Carlos, Bernadeth Pons, Michele Gumabao, and Kyle Negrito.

“This kind of milestone also secured or polished kung gaano siya ka-tibay or effective as a coach, so I’m just very grateful and blessed to be under his mentorship,” Valdez said.

“Siyempre, ako naman ‘yung situation na nandiyan palagi, ‘yan ‘yung pinaghahandaan namin. ‘Yung past kasi medyo nandiyan ‘yan pero naka-focus kami sa future at tsaka mga next games. Dun lang naman ako nagfo-focus palagi. So, hopefully, magtuloy-tuloy and mag-improve pa palagi ‘yung team na hinahawakan ko,” said Meneses.

“Mababait naman talaga sila, so masusunurin naman. Kailangan ‘yung chemistry ng coaches and players okay talaga.”
