The Akari Chargers will make their way to their second semis appearance, after pulling off a series sweep against the Galeries Tower Highrisers in the PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals.
The Akari Chargers completed another escape job after overcoming the Galeries Tower Highrisers, in five sets, 19-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20, 15-12, in Game 2 of the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Thursday, March 20.
After pulling away in the fourth frame, the Chargers used their winning momentum to distance themselves early from the Highrisers at 9-4 behind Eli Soyud and Grethcel Soltones.
Jewel Encarnacion single-handedly brought Galeries Tower back in the game, scoring four of the five points including the game-tying attack at 9-all.
But just when the momentum looked to be shifting, Soltones turned the tides once more in Akari’s way with back-to-back hits.
The Highrisers, however, would not go away that easily, tying the game once more at 11-all. But a crucial error by Andrea Marzan and Soyud’s attack gave the Chargers a crucial two-point lead.
Ysa Jimenez brought Galeries Tower to within one. However, a crucial attack error by Encarnacion sent Akari to match point where Nisperos delivered the winning kill.
Soyud finished the game with 20 points built off 18 attacks, one block, and one service ace.
Akari will join Choco Mucho in the round-robin semifinals which will begin on March 29.
