De La Salle Lady Spikers added another hardware into their ever-growing collection as they conquered the Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals on Sunday.

Playing without UAAP rookie-MVP Angel Canino, the Lady Spikers made things look easy on the way to the 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 Game 3 win at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

At the forefront was the youthful Shevana Laput, who was hailed Best Opposite Spiker.

Laput, who finished with team-high 18 points, has noticeably improved in leaps and bounds since her UAAP Season 85 campaign. But she said her best is yet to come.

“But really it’s definitely been a development. But this is not the best me, this is definitely not the best version of myself. There’s gonna be more improvements to come,” the 6-foot-2 tower said in interview aired during the league broadcast.

She attributed her development to her teammates, who have gotten her back every step of the way.

“There’s no words to say for this journey. At the end of the day it’s not me, it’s my teammates who are giving me that ball, who are giving me that trust to get that point,” she said.

As far as team play is concerned, though, there’s also still much left to be desired for the reigning UAAP champions according to team captain Julia Coronel, who finished with 12 excellent sets.

After all, this preseason tournament is part of their preparations for the upcoming UAAP season.

“We’ll continue to improve. We’ll go back to training especially in preparation for the next UAAP season,” she said in the postgame interview. “Just keep learning everyday.”
