The Fighting Maroons continue to flex their deep bench in their victories.
The UP Fighting Maroons inched closer to securing a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four after taking down the FEU Tamaraws, 81-64, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Saturday.
The Fighting Maroons started strong out of the gates as they built a double-digit lead early in the first quarter. But the Tamaraws climbed back to make it a competitive ball game by the end of the first half.
Come the second half, it was all UP as it overpowered FEU en route to the victory, which also eliminated the Morayta-based squad from Final Four contention.
Aldous Torculas led the way for the Fighting Maroons with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The homegrown Fighting Maroon has been a reliable option for UP throughout Season 86 and was finally able to fully show off his game in the victory.
“I'm just trying to be patient lalo na it's a process kasi these guys are helping me rin,” Torculas told the UAAP Varsity Channel. “For me naman, gusto ko lang din naman maglaro and sundin 'yung sistema ni coach Gold (Monteverde) and help the team.”
With the win, UP moved to 10-2 in the standings to remain on top. On the other hand, FEU slid to 3-9 with two games remaining.
The Fighting Maroons will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday when they take on the UST Growling Tigers at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The Tamaraws, meanwhile, are hoping to end their season on a strong note as they face the La Salle Green Archers on Wednesday.
