Jared Bahay’s UAAP home will not be with UP.
In a twist of fate, the Fighting Maroons say that Bahay has de-committed from the team.
"In the last two years, the UP MBT and Jared Bahay have developed a special relationship. We envisioned a common future with Jared handling the reins of a championship-caliber team. We believed in his immense talent and capacity to lead," UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol said Friday.
"However, not all things go according to plan. Although we have remained in our commitment to Jared, outside forces have intervened for him to have a change of heart,” Perasol added.
Despite losing a top prospect, UP nevertheless respects Bahay’s decision as the Fighting Maroons strive onward to UAAP Season 87.
Jared Bahay is easily among the most exciting prospects to enter the collegiate game in recent memory.
The top-ranked prospect from last year’s NBTC, Bahay led his Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu to back-to-back CESAFI titles.
Bahay has also been a mainstay in the Gilas Youth teams, averaging 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists through 12 games in U16 and U18 competitions.
