Shooting guard Jacob Cortez, who helped the San Beda Red Lions win the NCAA Season 99 men's basketball title, will be returning to the UAAP and continue his father Mike's legacy with the DLSU Green Archers.

The younger Cortez's move to Taft was confirmed on Friday, a day after he announced his departure from the Red Lions.

He expressed the desire to take on a new challenge.

"Challenging, improving, and growing is always my goal, and so I have decided that to achieve this, I need to get out of my comfort zone. With that, I plan to compete in the UAAP," he wrote in his farewell post.

Cortez played for La Salle Green Hills in the NCAA and the University of Santo Tomas at the junior level, before suiting up for San Beda.

The move inevitably draws comparison to his father Mike's legacy, as the Cool Cat helped DLSU win the UAAP Season 63 and UAAP Season 64 men's basketball championships. The Green Archers' attempt at a five-peat reign was halted in Season 65.

He will be joining a DLSU team that is fresh off winning a title, breaking a seven-year drought.

Coach Topex Robinson kept his celebration simple with red and green heart emojis.

While UAAP Season 86 tournament and Finals MVP Kevin Quiambao, who earlier welcomed the possibility of having Cortez in the fold, was ready to see more stars for La Salle.
