The FEU Tamaraws achieves their second straight win the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the expense of the DLSU Green Spikers.
Ariel Cacao tallied 24 excellent sets for Far Eastern University (FEU) in their win against the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Spikers, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
The Tamaraws continued their strong start and improved to 2-0. Meanwhile, DLSU is now at 1-1 after suffering its first loss in the tournament.
In the second set, the Tams struggled with errors and were taken aback by the strong attacks of Noel Kampton and John Ronquillo from the DLSU side.
Despite the second set storm, FEU looked more composed in the next two sets as Cacao pulled off flawless gameplays and Dryx Saavedra paced them with 20 points off 18 attacks and two monster blocks.
Martin Bugaoan tallied 16 points in the victory while Andrei Delicana contributed 13 points.
Consistent smashes from Bugaoan, Jayja Javelona, Lirick Mendoza, and Saavedra rallied FEU to a 17-10 lead that eventually led to the 25-17 deciding set win.
Vince Maglinao supplied the Green Spikers with 20 points, 18 excellent receptions, and five digs. Ronquillo ended with 18 and Kampton had 14 points and 21 receptions.
FEU is looking to go for a third straight win versus the University of the East Red Warriors on Sunday, February 25.
La Salle will attempt to bounce back from their loss in their meeting with the University of Santo Tomas Golden Spikers on the same day.
Both matches are to be played at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and will air on One Sports, the UAAP Varsity Channel, and the Pilipinas Live app.
