Even with a 5-1 record so far in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament, the DLSU Lady Spikers are still looking to further improve their game given the high expectations set for the team.

Following La Salle’s clean 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 sweep of the still-winless UP Fighting Maroons, the defending champion Lady Spikers are now looking to put more effort into their defense.

After the win, assistant coach Noel Orcullo was adamant about needing to fix the team’s errors ahead of their crucial Finals rematch versus the NU Lady Bulldogs on Saturday, March 16.

Alleiah Malaluan, who finished with six points in the swift win, said that their improvements will start during practices.

“What we do in training [is] more on defense nga pero as much as possible we try to apply it sa game kasi nga ngayon kita nga may lapses,” Malaluan said during the post-game press conference. “We have a week to train pa naman.”

Reigning MVP Angel Canino was also honest in admitting that the team needs to work on their defense—a known strength of the Lady Spikers under coach Ramil De Jesus. Canino led La Salle with 16 points built on 13 attacks, two blocks, and one ace.

“Sobrang importante 'yung defense kay coach Ramil. Facing NU next week, kailangan namin i-work lahat, hindi naman sa defense lang din kundi sa blockings kasi known kami dun and mas kailangan i-work pa 'yun,” said Canino.

The Lady Spikers are expected to go all out in their preparations as they try to correct their errors just in time for their highly-anticipated match versus the Lady Bulldogs.
