The FEU Lady Tamaraws grab their second-straight win after defeating the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday, March 17.
The Far Eastern University tightened their hold in the fourth spot after charging past Ateneo de Manila University in four sets, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Sunday, March 17.
After faltering in the second set, the Lady Tamaraws regained their form to dominate the Blue Eagles for a 25-13 third set victory.
In the fourth set, FEU began to distance itself from Ateneo at 15-11 after a 4-0 run powered by Chen Tagaod, Gerzel Petallo, and Mitzi Panangin.
Jean Asis continued to pour on for the Lady Tamaraws, scoring three-straight points to give FEU a five-point lead at 20-15.
With momentum on their side, the Lady Tamaraws fended off the Blue Eagles' final push as Congolese rookie Faida Bakanke sealed the win with a powerful attack.
FEU had a total of 15 blocks in the match as compared to Ateneo's two.
Tin Ubaldo orchestrated the Lady Tamaraws' attacks with 15 excellent sets to go along with six points on four attacks and two blocks.
Tagaod, meanwhile, had 18 points while Asis added 12 markers in the victory.
The win moves FEU to a 4-3 record, while Ateneo drops to 2-5 for fifth place after the first round.
Lyann De Guzman and Sobe Buena combined for 24 points for the Blue Eagles.
