Far Eastern University extended its winning run to five games after thumping the University of the Philippines in four sets, 25-20, 27-29, 25-21, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig on Saturday, April 20.
Faida Bakanke spearheaded the attack for FEU as she finished with 19 points, 11 of which came in the first set alone.
The Fighting Maroons managed to pull one back, escaping with an extended set victory in the second frame after back-to-back errors by the Lady Tamaraws.
But FEU came charging back, overpowering UP in the third before escaping with the win in the fourth set.
After Steph Bustrillo's back-to-back hits to tie the game at 20-all, FEU turned to its bench players in Alyzza Devosora and Mitzi Panangin, as well as Chenie Tagaod who scored three-straight points to restore the team's lead.
Tagaod and Panangin sealed the win after an emphatic attack and kill block as the Lady Tamaraws improved to a 9-4 record. Tagaod contributed 13 points, while Devosora had nine markers.
Bustrillo, on the other hand, led the Fighting Maroons with 14 points, while Jewel Encarnacion and Nina Ytang added 15 and 13 markers, respectively in the loss which sent UP to a 1-12 record.
