Ateneo gets second straight win, beating UST at their home court | UAAP Highlights

The Ateneo Blue Eagles capitalized on a late-game turnover to secure a 67-64 win over the UST Growling Tigers in UAAP Season 87 men's basketball action on Saturday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

With Ateneo clinging to a narrow 64-62 lead, UST guard Forthsky Padrigao’s inbound pass intended for Nic Cabañero was intercepted by Ateneo's Sean Quitevis, who quickly converted the steal into a basket.

The Blue Eagles then extended their lead to two possessions with only 11.7 seconds remaining.

Andrew Bongo led Ateneo with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Ian Espinosa contributed 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Cabañero, who fouled out late, led UST with 18 points, but his absence in the final minutes, along with the absence of foreign student-athlete Mo Tounkara (suspended), proved costly for the Tigers.

Ateneo improves to 3-6, while UST drops to 4-6 after suffering their third straight loss.
