NU opens title defense with quick work of Ateneo

The NU Lady Bulldogs opened Season 85 by looking just as dominant as they were back in UAAP Season 84.

Opening their title defense, the Lady Bulldogs ran over the Ateneo Blue Eagles for a straight set victory, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.

Season 84 Best Opposite Spiker Alyssa Solomon led the way with 12 points off 10 attacks, 1 block, and 1 ace.

While the win was as convincing as it could get, Solomon admitted there are still some things they need to work on.

“Happy naman kasi nakikita namin 'yung kung ano pinagte-trainingan namin and happy rin na na-apply namin 'yun sa game. Pero hindi kami magse-settle kasi marami pa rin kaming kailangan i-improve,” said Solomon.

Coach Karl Dimaculangan espouses the same message, doubling down on the focus for growth they have mentioned ahead of the season.

“'Yun lang iniisip namin. 'Yun 'yung goal namin para tuloy-tuloy lang kami mag-improve as a team,” said Dimaculangan.

The Lady Bulldogs are riding a win streak in the UAAP that has now reached 19 consecutive games and dates back to Season 82.

This, however, will be tested again on Wednesday, March 1, when they face a gritty Adamson Lady Falcons, who are coming off a strong victory against UE also on opening day.
