Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Nesthy Petecio opened her Paris 2024 campaign with a clean victory over India’s Jaismine Lamboria in women’s 57-kg round of 32 at the Roland-Garros Stadium on Wednesday, July 31 (Philippine time).

Petecio dominated Lamboria by unanimous decision in their bout, 5-0, advancing to the Round of 16, where she will face French boxer Amina Zidani.

Choosing to be more tactical, the Davao del Sur native outclassed Lamboria throughout the three-round contest, landing solid blows and avoiding the Indian's jabs and punches.

The Indian tried to rally back in the final round, but the Filipino bet continued her methodical fighting en route to securing the victory.

Lamboria was a last-minute replacement for fellow Indian boxer Parveen Hooda, who was handed a 22-month suspension after failing to submit quarterly whereabouts updates with WADA's Registered Testing Pool.

The judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, all for Petecio.
