Two wins now separate Nesthy Petecio and an Olympic gold medal.

The Olympic gold medal quest continues for Nesthy Petecio.

After another clinical outing, Petecio is through to the semifinals of women’s 57kg boxing of Paris 2024, scoring a 5-0 win over China’s Xu Zichun.

By making the semifinals, Petecio is assured of at least a bronze medal, becoming the third member of the Philippine Centennial Team to be on the podium in these Olympic Games after Carlos Yulo and Aira Villegas.

Nesthy also claims her place in Philippine sporting history, joining Hidilyn Diaz as the only Filipinas with multiple Olympic medals.

Against Xu, Nesthy scored a clean sweep of the first two rounds, once again banking on her experience and quick wits to outland the opposition.

Petecio only surrendered points in the third round, and even then she won in thee of the five judges for a final score of 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28.

Nesthy will get some much needed break following this quarterfinals win, as her semis bout is set for August 8 at 3:46 a.m. (Philippine time).
