Team Philippines’ Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina are moving upwards with the women’s individual stroke play of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at the halfway point.
Philippines golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina made significant strides in the Le Golf National.
Pagdanganan put up her best performance yet in Paris 2024, earning a much-impressive 3-under 69 to climb up in joint sixth as the second round of women’s individual stroke of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 came to a close tonight, August 8, Thursday (PH time).
The 26-year-old Pagdanganan, who tallied an even-par 72 in the opening round yesterday, brushed off two bogies in the first four holes and went on to earn four birdies, including three in the back nine, to end up with a total score of 3-under 141 through two rounds.
She even rose to as high as joint fourth at one point. But when the dust was settled, she capped off her tournament-best campaign tied with five others in sixth at three-under-par 69.
Her compatriot in Dottie Ardina jumped four places higher and is now in joint 36th with her par-even 72 score for a total of 4-over 148 in the first two rounds.
Ardina started slow with double bogey in the second hole but earned two birdies including one in the last par 5, 18th hole.
Metrauz overtook local bet Celine Boutier as the new frontrunner despite failing to sustain a hot start that saw her earn four birdies and two eagles in the front nine.
The Swiss, who came into the second matchday in joint third, still put up an impressive 6-under 66 for a total score of 8-under 136, taking a one-shot lead over second-running Ruoning Yin of China, who rises 11 spots higher compare to yesterday behind a masterclass 7-under 65 performance today.
Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Lydia Ko of New Zealand bounced back big-time in the second round, jumping to third behind six birdies en route to a five-under 67 score and three strokes behind Metrauz.
Mariajo Uribe of Colombia and Pia Babnik are tied in the fourth spot, with Babnik riding a strong performance in the back nine that included five straight birdies from holes 12-16. She came into the match in joint 30th.
Boutier dropped down outside of the top five, putting up her worst performance so far with a 4-over 76 score, a far cry from a near-flawless 3-under 27 outing she produced in the opening round.
Reigning Olympic champion and world no. 1 Nelly Korda had a much decent showing, carding 2-under 70 but it wasn’t enough for the 25-year-old to crack the top 10 and is currently tied in 12th with compatriot Rose Zhang.
Yuka Saso, now representing Japan, is tied at 47th. She went two-over-par with 74 in the second round, with a seven on a par-four 12th hole.
Round 3 of the event will continue tomorrow, Friday, August 9 (PH time).
