Entering the medal round tomorrow, it would take Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina a near-flawless outing to even get a shot of reaching the podium.
Philippine golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina finished Round 3 of women's individual stroke play in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 out of the top 10. There's one day left--the medal round.
Wearing a light green sleeveless polo shirt, Pagdanganan was unable to sustain a strong second-round after a 1-over 73 finish in the third round that dropped her outside the top 10 in joint 13th.
This was a far cry from a solid 3-under 69 outing yesterday that put the 26-year-old just outside of the top five--joint sixth entering the third round. She is currently tied with Canada’s Brooke Henderson, Germany’s Esther Henseleit, and Slovenia’s Pia Babnik.
Pagdanganan opened her latest campaign in a see-saw fashion, garnering a pair of birdies and bogeys on the front nine. She then earned her first 1-over-par score in the tournament after collecting her third bogey in the par 4, 12th hole and took another one in the 17th hole.
Her total score in the first three rounds? a 2-under 214 that is seven strokes back of co-leaders’ Lydia Ko of New Zealand and Morgane Metraux of Switzerland.
Meanwhile, Ardina put up her best performance in the tournament so far, earning a 3-under-par 69 for the 23rd place, 13 spots higher than her joint 36th finish entering the round.
With one round remaining, Dottie is up to a total score of 1-over 217.
The 30-year-old raced to a fast start, racking up three birdies and six pars in the front nine before stumbling in the back nine. She shot a bogey in the par 4, 12th hole and added a double-bogey in the par 3, 16th hole.
But Ardina bounced back in the last two holes, collecting a birdie and her first and only eagle so far in the tournament.
Both Ko and Metraux earned a 9-over-par scores through three rounds and took a two-shot lead over Rose Zhang of USA and Miyu Yamashita of Japan.
Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul and Colombia’s Mariajo Uribe occupied the no. 5 and no. 6 spots as four golfers-- including reigning Olympic champion and world no.1 Nelly Korda-- are trailing five shots at joint seventh.
Hannah Green of Australia and Amy Yang of South Korea are tied at no. 11 while Canada’s Brooke Henderson and Germany’s Esther Henseleit are behind by seven shots at no. 13.
The fourth and final day of the competition will be tomorrow, Saturday, August 10 (PH time).
